Resident retention rate refers to the proportion of a generation residing in the Faroe Islands at a specified base age and still live in the Faroe Islands in consecutive years.
The base age is the starting point from which a generation is defined and measured. The portion of the generation is always 100% on the given base age and can not exceed 100% in consecutive years.
Information regarding individuals' residences and corresponding base ages are only available from 1985 and onwards.
Long-term residency refers to persons who have resided in the Faroe Islands for either seven out of ten consecutive years or half of their life.
