US imports down, Chinese imports up

Total imports amounted to just over DKK 10 billion in the April 2024 - March 2025 period. This is DKK 1,173 million (10.5%) less than in the previous 12-month period.

The graphs below show import figures in April 2024 - March 2025 compared with the previous 12-month period.

There are several reasons why the import value has dropped by almost DKK 1.2 billion. These include lower imports of raw materials for fish processing, which can be found in the ‘Food and live animals’ and ‘Crude materials, inedible, except fuels’ categories. Imports of fuel and ships have also gone down. Imports of fuel and other oils fell by DKK 294.1 million year-on-year. This is due to lower prices and lower volumes.

Imports of machinery, engines, ships and vehicles fell by DKK 635.9 million (21%). Of this, ships account for DKK 355 million and vehicles account for DKK 150 million.

The table below shows a considerable decline in imports from North America. This is mostly due to lower imports of medicines, technical equipment and vehicles from the US. There has been a notable decline in imports from the EU and a rise in imports from non-EU Europe. This is largely due to oil now being imported from Norway (non-EU) rather than the Netherlands (EU).

Although imports from North America, which are mostly from the US, have been at a lower level over the past year, there is no indication that imports in recent months have been affected by the political situation in the US. Imports from the EU have returned to levels not seen in more than a decade. In 2022 and 2023, imports from EU countries ranged between DKK 500 million and DKK 600 million per month. Meanwhile, imports from non-EU countries have been increasing in recent years, rising from DKK 100 million to DKK 150-200 million per month. Imports from Asia have remained steady in recent years.

Looking at import volume, we see a year-on-year drop in fuel imports of 23,000 tonnes (7.5%). This can be seen in the ‘33 - Petroleum, petroleum products and related materials’ category.
