Fish export value up by 26%

Faroese exports of fish products increased by DKK 2.4 billion in 2022. This represents a year-on-year increase of 26% in export value. The total export volume went down by 6%.

Exports have increased across most commodity groups. Salmon exports saw a year-on-year increase of DKK 1.1 billion. The export value of herring dropped by DKK 143 million (19.3%), mainly due to a 30.8% decrease in the export volume for herring.

Big growth in exports to the U.S.

The Asian and the American markets have seen the highest relative increase, with the export value increasing by 72% and 63%, respectively, in 2022. This growth mainly stems from salmon. Exports to Asia are approaching pre-pandemic levels, while exports to the U.S. have doubled in the past few years.
