Fish exports down DKK 820 million

Total exports amounted to DKK 11.9 billion from September 2023 to August 2024 – more than DKK 1 billion less than the previous 12-month period.

The tables below show fish export figures in value and volume terms in the September 2023 - August 2024 period compared with the previous 12-month period.

Fish exports declined by DKK 819.7 million (8%) year-on-year. Exports of salmon, cod and feeding stuff went up, while exports declined for all other fish species. The export drop in the non-fish category predominantly stems from lower exports of fuel and ships.

Salmon exports increased by DKK 587.6 million, up 11% in value and up 17% in volume.

The graph below shows exports classified by the ISSCFC fishery commodities classification system. The past few years have seen increased exports of fishmeal, feeding stuff and fish oil. The tables above show that exports of fishmeal and fish oil fell DKK 591 million in the past year.

Tables for imports and exports have been restructured. All tables now allow selection of imports/exports and value/volume.

The new SITC table (UH01026) is similar to the old tables (UH01020 and UH01021), with the following changes:

  • Upgraded BEC classification from Rev. 4 to Rev. 5.
  • Uses the FAO’s ISSCFC fishery commodities classification.
  • Fish species are classified according to the MCS (Main Commercial Species) system by The European Market Observatory for fisheries and aquaculture products (EUMOFA), launched by the EU Commission.
  • Includes fish processing information and supply chain data.

The ISSCFC includes a large number of commodities searchable by codes or text.

All data in the ISSCFC table will eventually be translated into Faroese.
