Big year-on-year retail sales increase in Q1 2021

Retail sales were significantly higher in the first quarter of this year than in the first quarter of last year.

Retail sales figures are divided into the following three main commodity groups: ‘groceries and non-alcoholic drinks’, ‘furnishings and household equipment’ and ‘clothing and footwear’.

Sales in ‘groceries and non-alcoholic drinks’ increased by 6% in Q1 2021 compared to Q1 2020. Prices in this commodity group saw a year-on-year increase of 0.4%.

Sales in the ‘furnishings and household equipment’ commodity group increased by 21% year-on-year, and prices increased by 1%.

The biggest increase was in the ‘clothing and footwear’ group, with sales increasing by 59% from Q1 2020 to Q1 2021. Prices increased by 3% in this period.
