Number of residence and work permits continues to rise
The past decade has seen a massive increase in residence and work permits issued to foreign nationals. The biggest annual increase was registered last year.
About 500-600 residence or work permits were issued annually to foreign nationals in the first 14 years of this century. The sudden activity spike in the Faroe Islands in 2014 caused this number to skyrocket.
Ten years ago, 422 residence and work permits were issued. This number approached 3,300 in 2022.

Regarding violations of the Aliens Act, the annual average was below 25 up to 2018. This average has increased in recent years, reaching 154 last year.
